Default Has anyone had any problems installing from the XMsims2 web?
I have been installing cc for Sims 2 lately, and when it comes down to downloading hair it requires a mesh from the XMsims web. I have no problem getting to the website but when I try to install the mesh, I get a warning from Google saying that it may contain a virus. I do not know if Google is just trying to do a scare but I want to know if anybody who has downloaded from the website had any issues with their game or computer.

(Also for reference, this is the website I am referring to): https://www.xmsims.com/sims2/ehtm/hair/hair01.htm

No, but I haven't downloaded from them for a long time and I never got that warning.

Ah I see, it's probably just me being paranoid about possible game corruption. I'll just bypass the warning and see how things go from there!

The problem seems to be that the download uses the http protocol rather than the newer and more secure https protocol. Firefox blocked it as a potential risk for this reason. But it gave me the option to download it anyway. Bearing in mind that, not so long ago the entire World Wide Web used to run on http, my gut feeling is that the risk is actually quite low. It doesn't say it has a virus, merely that it might become infected during the download process. If you do download it, I recommend getting your anti-virus software to scan the .zip file before extracting and installing the mesh. I give below the warning message I got from Firefox:

A lot of my favourite male hairs are Flora hairs from XM Sims. I downloaded most of them some eleven years ago in my first few months as a Simmer. I wouldn't want to be without them.

Yep! It happens to MATY too. It's completely safe, I've downloaded from there thousands of times. As you said, it's because it doesn't have the https protocol. If you're in chrome, it also gives a "Keep" button.

Game corruption only happens if you mess with universal NPCs or your objects.package. In other words, CC cant cause game corruption, only in a few rare cases crashing.
Anyways, the site is safe and as AndrewGloria said, it is because there is a "http" as a protocol and google often freaks out about it. It happens to MATY too and having "http" doesnt necessarily mean there is a virus ahead, it often just means it's an old site, which MATY and XMSims is.
I have downloaded meshes and recently tried to. It gave me the same message and I just clicked the button to keep the download and neither my game nor my computer exploded.
Google will give a "Keep" button. Click on it and it will download it.

This was very helpful and good to know! I kinda assumed it had something to do with the website being older. Thank you so much!

No problem!
Please watch April Black's video on hood corruption too if you are also scared of hood corruption. Slightly off topic, but seriously, the game is more robust than we think.

I've scanned the files from XM Sims (the mesh and seven recolours) with my F-Secure Anti-Virus, and they're all clean.
