Default Adding AVI file to play on screen ingame
Is there a way to make an AVI file play in a loop on a screen ingame? Not as a TV movie, but as a part of an object, perhaps with 1-3 different to choose from (with a pie menu)?

Basically, I want to use a few AVI files from TS4 in TS2, for some spesific objects.

I'm not a modder of ANY talent, so take this for what it's worth... But i believe you can. When I read your post, i thought of Paladin's arcade games over at SimWardrobe. He created some classic games from the early 80s, using music and video depicting the REAL thing. I'm not sure how he did it, but perhaps if you looked at his "ReadMe" and the files he created, maybe that could point you in the right direction.

You can't link directly to the "Arcade Games" page, cuz it kicks back to SimWardrobe.com. So from the main page, click the "Sims2" button, then click the "Objects" link, and from there, it's the second row, third item. Good Luck!

Games are sort of different. I know you can make custom games and custom TV channels, but that's maybe not quite what I'm after (unless it's the only way).

I'm thinking the AVI file as some kind of texture replacement, working sort of like a TV but without the sims being able to turn it on and off, or deciding to watch it, or in any way interact with it. Instead, I would like the different videos available via a menu, as looped videos plus an 'off' option. I've tried looking for tutorials, but can't find much.

I have no idea if this would work, but could you make your AVI into individual frames, then use this tutorial?

That's what I was thinking; this can be used to make objects such as these:

That was my first thought - but unfortunately I think the videos would require more than 16 frames, since they're about 30 seconds each, and I wouldn't like them to look too choppy.

The only other thing I can think of then would be to make your object a TV, but remove autonomy. You could wrap or distort the screen like this:

What are the objects you are hoping to create? If you can be a little more specific then maybe other creators will have some more ideas.

The item does not have to be a TV but the avi must be a TV movie (TV station or video game) as there's no other way to define it. When we 'texture' an item we don't use the actual texture but we 'point it' to the material definition instead. Movies don't have a material definition so we must point it to the TV station which defines the avi.

So in theory could I make a kind of TV object with a custom channel (that does not work for other TVs), that sims can't control? I don't want the said videos to play on regular TVs.

Basically, I'm trying to make some kind of TV object or screen where an avi file can be set to loop (possibly with several video options, or channels with different videos). I found some videos in the TS3/4 files I'd like for my TS2 game, but I want them to be linked to one (or more) special TV objects, and not be available as regular TV channels for other TVs. Would that in any way be possible?

I know it's possible to make custom TV channels, but as far as I know they'll show up for all TVs.

Well, numenor made a computer with custom screens:

And Psychosim made a post-apocalyptic TV which showed custom screens:

Maybe those will give you ideas?

The noise patterns are just regular TV movies/AVI files, and the computers use cell animation, so they don't offer any new insight, I'm afraid.
