This user has the following games installed:
Sims 3, Ambitions, Seasons
edit existing world in CAW
I want to create an alternate Sunlit Tides; nothing major, merely swap some lots around to create a "downtown" area with the most used commercial lots. To that end I've read several threads on the subject, but they are either unclear or disagree on a couple of points. What I think I know:
- make a copy of Sunlit Tides and rename it ("Sunlit Tides 2", "Son of Sunlit Tides", whatever)
- edit with S3PE so CAW will open it
- open in CAW and send to Edit In Game
- copy all lots to be moved into the library then bulldoze them
- copy lots from the library to where I want them
- return to CAW and save
- export
Where I am confused:
I should edit something in the new file so the game recognizes it as a separate world (apparently renaming the file isn't sufficient); but I am uncertain exactly what to edit here, or even whether this edit is done via CAW or S3PE. A couple of threads also say I should export something, via S3PE, from a different world, any world apparently, and import that to my world; one thread even had this export as a d/l so I merely get that and import it, but there were two different files available. Since not all threads mention this latter export/import step I am quite confused.
I am not unfamiliar with CAW, having four worlds in development, but am just learning to use S3PE.

Thanks, but is there a text version? Lol, I am old school, i can read a dozen pages in the time it takes to watch a 6 minutes video; and I can easily scroll back and forth through those pages, or even print them out if necessary.
(In a bit of irony I had just the opposite message recently when someone asked how to do something in a graphics editor. I thought my instructions were simple and concise - open this menu, select that item, uncheck these two boxes, type in this value, "OK" and you're done. The response? "Thanks but that's complicated. Do you have a video I can watch?")

Thanks. That is one of the threads i had read, and about which I had questions.
"some people have had problems with inhabited worlds, you could remove the population by..."
I definitely do not want to do that. (I have downloaded an edited Sunlit Tides, ready for CAW, but "depopulated".) I do not wish to add or remove anything, merely rearrange some lots.
One of the first links there is to another MTS thread regarding "... flag a world as a city...".
From what I've read world/city/town/neighborhood are synonymous. More confusion. (This thread also states this flag is not present in Sunlit Tides and Riverview. Adding to the confusion.)
"...delete the following resources if they are present: WPID 0xF609FD60 and UNKN 0x296A6258. Those files give the world its identity and type, so you do not want to copy those. (Exception- you might want to keep the city resource if you wish to make an amended version..."
"if they are present"? If they "give the world its identity" wouldn't they be necessary? "...amended version"? Would not any edit create an amended version?
There's also talk of exporting an XML file and importing it again after any editing in CAW. This may, for whatever arcane reason, apply only to Bridgeport; but I'm not certain.
Basically, unless my conclusions are utterly erroneous, I'm presented with two options for the first steps - work on a copy of the original world with internal IDs edited or create a new, blank, world and import the original into that for editing. (There's an old saying, "The man with one watch always knows what time it is. The man with two watches is never sure.)

There used to be a CAW version of all of the store worlds, but I don't remember where. You might post your questions in the CAW creation thread.

Bridgeport is a late night town, aka a city. If you haven't already figured this out in the last 3 years. ^_^

You could re-populate the world on your own, though. It's not very hard to do, you can just save the Sunlit Tides families to your bin and use them.
Here is a tutorial on how to do it: http://simswiki.info/wiki.php%3Ftit...ting_CAW_Worlds
Maybe this helps you!
