This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default Loading Screen/UI Size is Wrong
I thought long and hard before posting here, but I want to know if anyone else has this problem before I start changing things in my graphics.sgr.

Not very long ago (roughly a week and a half or so ago) I was working on some cc I've been making and fired up the game to take a look. Suddenly I am greeted with a very peculiar video intro: it's a much smaller window than it should be, with black bars smooshing it and the video is cut off on the sides. The loading screen is no better: much smaller than it should be, not filling up the entirety of my screen. The game finishes loading up, I click to go to the neighborhood, and that (luckily) is filling my screen. However, the UI in the lower left corner is much smaller than it should be and, when I open the cheat code box at the top, it too is small!

I check the resolution: still where it should be, but now I don't have the ability to go above 60 FPS (there are no other options beside 60, whereas before it had the option for 75 and I think 55 below). I switch the resolution down to 1440x900 (it's supposed to be at 1600x900), but it's wrong, so I switch it back again. I log out, and try again at a later time: although the video is now fixed, the loading screen is STILL too small (though not as small), but definitely not what it should be. Get into the neighborhood, and the UI and cheat code box are still much smaller than they should be.

I have not downloaded anything terribly recent, nor any new global mods/hacks, I've been making my own cc lately but the one thing I can think of changing things didn't (and was removed prior to this happening), and until now I haven't even touched the config file!

To be safe, I removed all of my new object creations and tried the game again, but alas, it's still weirdness inside. I run Discord when I play, and according to it, I'm running Ultimate Collection (which is wrong, because I have never downloaded that and am, in fact, playing off of M&G). I don't know if the game thinks it's UC or not, but that's one thing I've come across, that UC does weird things like this.

The closest picture resembling what I'm seeing is one where the person is playing in Windowed Mode, but my shortcut isn't set to that (I checked), and unlike WM, you can't see the bottom set of icons with the game running.

Now, I did look here: http://simscommunity.info/2016/04/2...es-sim-shadows/
It mentions checking the screen mode resolution, and mine does says it's on 800x600, so I'm not sure if I should change it or not. I also looked at Leefish's site, but again, I'm not sure if I should attempt that, either (I did make a backup of the .sgr file it says to, so that's ready). Lastly, when I checked the config file (per Leefish's instructions) the game is going off of my nVidia, but it also says it's <<Not Found in Database!>>

As for specs:
OS: Windows 7 64 Bit Home Edition
Processor: AMD Phenom II 840 T Quad-Core Processor 2.90 GHz
RAM: 6.00 GB
Card: nVidia GeForce GTX 650
Memory: 4096 MB
Free Memory: 3204 MB

Has anyone else seen this? And if you have, what did you do to fix it?

Your ingame settings have been changed to your desktop settings and you just need to change them in game back to where they were.

If you are not able to change it in game then you may need to follow this.

quote from the ISZ
I finally found a link that helped me solve the resolution dilemma that I was having with Sims 2 and Windows 7. The resolution I am using 1920x1080 was not listed as an option in the graphics settings so I was having to play in this window that didn't encompass all of the real-estate on my monitor.

I found out how to correct this here. I had issues getting it to load so here is what it entails.

There may be another way to achieve this, but I am very happy that this worked for me.

Find the file: (You need to edit the file in the folder of your last expansion)

C:/Program Files/EA GAMES/The Sims 2/TSData/Res/Config/Graphics Rules.sgr

… and make a copy of it under a different name as a backup (something like Graphics Rules.sgr.bak)

Now edit the original file and find the section:

"option ScreenModeResolution"

You will see settings for Low, Medium, and High. Copy the medium settings and paste them over the low settings to allow the game to start at 1024×768 resolution or better.

Save and exit and then start the game to see if it works.

What I did was copy the medium settings to Low and the high to medium and then entered my resolution in the high. Actually I left the medium and low the same it seems, but it doesn't matter for me as I only use the highest.

Example:

option ScreenModeResolution
setting $Low
uintProp maxResWidth 1280
uintProp maxResHeight 1024
uintProp defaultResWidth 800
uintProp defaultResHeight 600

setting $MediumButDefaultLow
uintProp maxResWidth 1280
uintProp maxResHeight 1024
uintProp defaultResWidth 1024
uintProp defaultResHeight 768

setting $Medium
uintProp maxResWidth 1600
uintProp maxResHeight 1200
uintProp defaultResWidth 1024
uintProp defaultResHeight 768

setting $High
uintProp maxResWidth 1920
uintProp maxResHeight 1080
uintProp defaultResWidth 1024
uintProp defaultResHeight 768

@marka93 Thank you for the quick response!!
I might go ahead and follow that, though I am a bit fuzzy: what do you mean by desktop settings vs. ingame settings? (probably a dumb question, but I didn't touch anything, so I'm curious; last time I changed anything was to turn off "desktop composition" in order to take pictures for my uploads).

Your screen resolution for your monitor is what I call your desktop settings then you have your in game setting for resolution.

Windows update can change your monitors resolution.

I was test out how to take pics in Sims 2 with Fraps without having to change square pixel on and off every time I want to take a pic and was told that match the game to my desktop would fix it but it made every thing about the UI to small for me to see, (I'm an old fart).
The pic you posted look just like what mind did when I change my in game settings to match my desktop but the pics still had to have square pixels on or off for pics.

So, did you just click on the button to revert to default settings in the visual settings and/or game settings, or had you written down the settings you had before you switched them for picture-taking? I cycled through the screen resolution options and none of them looked right.

The only thing I changed was the in game screen size to match what my desktop size was which is 1920x1080 and it made my game look like the pic you posted up above.

But first I had to do the changes that I posted in post #2

OH, okay, I will do those changes in post #2, since the resolution in-game is already the same as that of my monitor.
