all the hairs Database dead?
Did someone know what happened to "All the hairs"? I was there two days ago and today I was redirected to a page that has nothing to do with it. If it is gone it would be sad since I used it very often and there isn't any other Database for hair as far as I know.

Dunno, emailed the hosts but I guess they won't get back to me until Monday. They do this occasionally, they're not even vaguely reliable, but they are free and drupal is a heap of shit to install on one's own server.

Any news? It still redirects to unsafe pages so I'm afraid it will be gone like the first hair database.

They haven't got back to me yet. tbh it's probably just bandwidth exceeded and it'll reset at the end of the month, that's what happened last time - but I might have to look into moving to a different host if this is going to keep happening.

Is there any update about this? It still seems to be redirecting like it was before and I sure miss the site functioning.

Bandwidth exceeded I'm sorting it out but I can't really afford to upgrade to premium right now this minute, so it's taking a bit of time.

It's back up now. I may move to a different host in the next few weeks but I'll make sure the old links all redirect properly.

I'm afraid I'd never heard of the "All the hairs" database until OP started this thread. Is it a sort of successor to the old Hair Gallery? I found that gallery quite useful back in 2012 when I first got my game and joined MTS, but sadly many of the links there are dead now. I'm just getting some Newsea hairs now -- it's one of the sites that still works!
So could you please give us a link to this new database?

It's the same as the old link. Here: http://allthehairs.podserver.info
It's actually some kind of successor of an old livejournal community that doesn't exist anymore, pooklet'd hairs.

Is it possible to search by typing a keyword? I don’t see that option and I always search by jumping between the pages. If that feature is not there it’d be a useful thing to add in the future

Thank you, Nysha. It's such helpful resource, and everything you put into it is most appreciated.

There is pretty easy to search by creator and select gender or texture. Not so much pages to go through.
It still needs adding a lot of retextures. Everyone can help.

When one first goes to the hairs database, it's like Christmas.

Ooooh, I had never heard of the All Hairs database until this thread. Do I need more hair? No. Will I get more? Probably.
I used to have only Maxi and Skysims hair (loved the variety, but HATED the reds). And then I found the Almighty Hat "hair dump" blog posts and I was in heaven. This, however, is just like Charmful said -- Like Christmas!
So many things to learn; so few brain cells to process the info needed to learn things!

Ohh I agree, loved the skysims designs but their reds were straight up pink! Before finding the hairs database I would google search for pooklet colors of the hair to get proper reds. MyBSims usually has a good amount of re-colored skysims hairs in Pooklet colors.

Thank you so much. This database is always the first place to me to find a specific hair after google didn't help.

I like all my Sims to have different hairstyles as it makes it easier to tell them apart. Before finding this database I really was beginning to run out of hair meshes that I liked. I like my boys to have yaoi style hair that at least covers their ears; I like my girls to have similar hair, maybe a little longer. So when I play I am surrounded by Sims that I find pleasing to look at, and often with attractive personalities too. So in a sense, my Sims tend to look similar, but I still want them to be recognisably different -- even without their clothes on. () (I'm not very good at recognising facial features.) So this new source of hairstyles will be a great boon to me.
Up until now my main source for hair has been the MTS/Wiki gallery I linked to in my previous post, and my hairs came from the big hair makers -- XM Sims, Raon, CoolSims, Newsea, SAU, Peggy, etc. But now sadly many/most of these have passed into history. It was an interesting fact that many of these were paysites with a mixture of free and "Donate" hairs. I took this as an indication that making good hair meshes required so much time and effort, that the makers felt they needed some sort of financial recompense. Whatever the morality of this, one odd effect today is that it's often easier to get the "Donate" hairs from the Booty, than to find the free ones. I'm glad I got all the free male hairs that I liked from Raon while the site was still active. I suppose I can now get their pay-hairs from the Booty with a completely clear conscience!
One possible limitation of the all the hairs database (and remember that I am completely new to it) is that it appears to be a database of recolours, which aims to show all the colours available for a mesh apart from the ones that the mesh creator originally made for it. All the hairs that I've got from the database so far have included the mesh, which is good now that so many of the original sites are dead. But, for instance, I do see some beautiful styles on the Ren/Louis/Simcribbling page of the old Hair Gallery, but only a few of these have recolours on the database, and I do wonder if there is anywhere on the internet where I can still get the originals.
None of this is even remotely a criticism of the database, which is a wonderful new resource for me. It is more a lament for the old hair sites which have served me well in the quite recent past. Since the availability of Sims 2 hair has moved from a relatively small number of big sites specialising in hair, to a proliferation of uploads on LJ, Dreamwidth, tumblr, etc., this database is really an essential resource for those of us looking for hair. So, many, many thanks to Nysha and everyone else who helps to run it!

The text search feature has been turned off for ages because I couldn't get it to work right. Then I got it to work right, and couldn't figure out how to re-enable it for normal users . I'll see about that.
Some of the entries do have a link to the original, but yeah, it's more intended for finding recolours - once editing is enabled again please do feel free to add original links if you find any obscure ones, though!

Is it dead again? I'm asking because when I tried to enter this site today, it said:
"Retexture ALL THE HAIRS
Error
The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later."

They're probably changing to another server. Something similar happened when GOS was being redesigned. I'm patient, I can wait until it's back again.

Oy for the love of fuck, I dunno what it can be this time...
ETA: Fixed. For some reason the host keeps disabling a needed PHP module *sigh*
