That's a lot of downloads...

Three million downloads! I had no idea when I started that the number would ever get that high.

Thanks, everyone!

New computer, big hassle.

Date Posted: 30th Nov 2011 at 8:12 AM

I haven't made anything new for a while because I got a new computer a while back and I was afraid that The Sims 2 wouldn't run on it. I didn't want to go through all the trouble of installing and then find out that Windows 7 was going to kick up a fuss. I finally broke down and installed TS2 a few days ago. It seems to run okay... but I've been having other problems.

It took me hours to install Photoshop Elements because the first installation decided it was going to just abort... right at the end. The second time worked, though, so I thought I was on my way. But now I'm having issues with MilkShape!

I hate Windows 7. I've only been using it for a few months, but it's caused me more problems in that time than my old computer (running Windows XP) caused in years. I wish I could put Windows 7 in a paper bag, light it on fire, and leave it on one of my Sims' doorsteps. But that would just be cruel to the Sims.

Maybe by posting this I'll motivate myself to actually get these outfits done before Christmas.

A realization

Date Posted: 10th Aug 2011 at 4:04 AM

I seem to enjoy meshing more than recolouring. In fact, I find myself losing interest in a project after the mesh is made. It's funny because my first uploads were straight recolours. I don't know how I had the patience, looking back. Some of the stuff I did without even touching the UV map amazes me now. MilkShape has made me a bit of a lazy recolourist!

Just can't get that mojo going!

I'm still here! I just haven't been in the mood to finish some of these Sim clothes. As a result, I've got three half-finished projects sitting here, taunting me. Oh, well. I'll get to them one day. One day...

Sims 2 Store is closed!

Date Posted: 31st Mar 2011 at 10:24 PM

I got a message in my e-mail saying that The Sims 2 Store was closing today. I'd downloaded a few items (some clothes, plus the baby items) but they'd gotten lost during one of my EP upgrades. I never did figure out how to re-download them -- there was no option in the EA Download Manager to do so.

So now what? I paid money for those items, so I'm a little bit pissed off right now that I can't get them again. Are they available for download anywhere? It's not like I'm stealing them; EA already got my money.

News flash, EA. Not everybody can (or even wants to) play The Sims 3. Trying to force us to by taking away Sims 2 content is just mean.

Big meanies.

It was time...

... for a new avatar. Hey, it's spring now, and kids in wool pea coats just seemed a little too wintry.

While I was at it, I also made a new graphic for my TOU. Not much has changed, really. I was just bored with the old one.

I swear, I've been working on this project for at least 6 or 7 hours now...

Date Posted: 20th Mar 2011 at 12:03 AM

... and I still can't get it to work.

I did manage to fix the transparency issue that was making the skirt look see-through even when the alpha channel was completely white. But now I've got another issue, and I'm at a loss as to how to fix it. Maybe it's just not possible.

Does the game render the top layer on top... when the Sim is upside down? The skirt looks fine right side up... but if the Sim sits (or if I look up her skirt in Body Shop), the underside takes on the texture of the top alpha layer. Why on earth would this happen?

Any ideas? I have to take a break from this; it's driving me crazy.

It's just one problem after another...

Date Posted: 13th Feb 2011 at 2:09 AM

... after installing Apartment Life. I just spent all day working on some new kids' clothes, and now I can't get the game to run. I've tried twice now, and it gets to the neighbourhood loading screen and hangs.

It had better not be a SecuROM issue. Ever since installing this EP, my computer has been very, very slow. It's not just the Sims games, either. Firefox, Photoshop Elements, and my genealogy program are all really lagging now. I shouldn't have to wait five seconds after every click for my computer to get the message and do something.

That's what I get for obeying the law and not just downloading a pirated copy. Thanks a lot, EA.

Just got Apartment Life...

Date Posted: 10th Feb 2011 at 12:31 AM

... and am trying to put my existing neighbourhoods into the game. I hope that's possible. Is that possible? I don't particularly want to abandon all my Sims...

But geez... This machine is so slow...

EDIT: Doesn't look like it's possible. So why the heck does everybody tell you to back up your 'hoods? What's the point?

EDIT #2: Now it's showing up. WTF?!

EDIT #3: Spoke too soon. Lots won't load, and the whole thing hangs. Stupid piece of garbage (I'm referring to my computer... although I'm sure this EP didn't help matters).

EDIT #4: Piece of crap. It's not just buggy; it doesn't work. The loading screen just stays up indefinitely. So my options are: play a brand new neighbourhood and lose all my progress (again... I just did this a month ago), or go back and play without AL (which kind of defeats the purpose of giving EA money for it). As long as my old game still works...
